Region
Where nature runs free and wine knows no bounds.
Where We Grow
Defined by river, landscape and climate.
Stretching between the mighty Murray River and the edge of the Great Australian Outback, the Riverland is shaped by its remarkable geography and climate.
Long Sunny Days
Cool Temperate Nights
Low annual rainfall give rise to a continental climate that’s ideal for ripening grapes. The dry conditions reduce the risk of pests and disease, allowing for lower intervention and more sustainable production.
The region’s soils are as varied as its styles — from alluvial terraces of mixed sands, silts and clays deposited over millennia by the Murray, to wind-formed sand dunes laced with fine limestone particles. These ancient formations support old vine plantings and new varietals alike.
At lower elevations near the river, early vineyards were established using open channels and pump-lifted irrigation. Higher up, red sandy soils over rich clay define elevated growing zones, creating a patchwork of microclimates and conditions that contribute to the diversity of Riverland wines.
The Riverland’s reliable, phylloxera-free status, minimal humidity and flexible irrigation infrastructure make it one of the most adaptable and sustainable winegrowing regions in the world.
