Winegrowing
Big skies, bold ideas, brilliant fruit.
800+
Growers in the riverland
The Riverland is arguably Australia’s most sustainable and efficient winegrowing region — and it’s powered by more than 800 growers who know how to work smart.
These are mavericks of the vineyard: generational growers who’ve invested in automation, infrastructure and future-fit vineyards. They understand scale. They understand climate. And they’re not afraid to try something new.
Together, they produce more than half of South Australia’s grapes and nearly a third of the nation’s entire winegrape supply — over 410,000 tonnes every year.
90+
Wine varieties in the riverland
Think the Riverland is just shiraz and chardonnay? Think again.
We grow more than 90 wine grape varieties – from the familiar to the forgotten, and the next-gen stars built for a warming world. Growers here are trialling heat- and drought-tolerant varietals that still deliver big flavour and clean structure.
You’ll find classic commercial fruit alongside emerging Mediterranean styles, old vines next to organic blocks, and a region-wide curiosity for what else is possible.

The engine room of Australian wine.
Our growers don’t just follow the rules - they rewrite them.
The Riverland is where scale meets smarts, and where grape growing is equal parts grit, legacy and innovation.
With unmatched efficiency, forward-thinking practices and a mindset that favours action over tradition, the Riverland is redefining what winegrowing looks like in Australia.

Terroir
It’s why winemakers come here: reliable fruit, rebellious possibilities.
We’re phylloxera-free, sun-drenched and full of contrasts – and that’s exactly how we like it.
The Riverland stretches from the Murray River across ancient river flats and red sandy rises to the edge of the outback. Our soils are varied: alluvial loams, limestone-rich ridges and deep clays shaped by time and weather.
Dry summers and low humidity keep pressure low and options wide open – from low-input to organic, and from early ripening to late harvest.

Sustainability
Because here, sustainability isn’t a label. It’s just how we grow.
With low pest and disease pressure, Riverland growers use fewer inputs and less intervention by default. That’s good for the fruit, good for the soil, and good for the future.
We’re home to one of the fastest-growing clusters of organic vineyards in Australia, with regenerative practices, water-smart tech, and smarter canopy management all part of the norm.
We don’t just talk sustainability – we’re growing it.
